Landhuis Daniel is a quirky, two-pearl property located in the countryside outside Willemstad. The guesthouse’s seven rooms are old-fashioned and simple, with some set in the centuries-old plantation house found on the grounds. There’s a nice outdoor pool and a great restaurant, plus an interesting herb garden. On-site amenities are otherwise minimal and there’s nothing of interest within walking distance, making this property best suited to easy-going travelers with cars. Travelers interested in affordable accommodations closer to the action of Willemstad might want to compare rates with Hotel 't Klooster.

E M City Hotel is an unfussy, two-and-a-half-pearl property located in the heart of downtown Willemstad. The hotel’s 70 rooms are attractively priced and its location right in front of the Queen Emma Bridge is unbeatable; however, its rooms and facilities are in serious need of a refresh and guests should be prepared to manage their expectations accordingly. Amenities are limited to an outdoor pool and a casino, though many attractions and restaurants can be found within easy walking distance. Travelers may want to compare rates and amenities with the neighboring Otrobanda Hotel and Casino.

Unfortunately situated in the D.R.’s sex-tourism capital, the 670-room Be Live Hamaca has modern Deluxe Rooms that were renovated in 2008. But the beach view of the nearby cargo port isn't exactly awe-inspiring. Most guests can look past the unfortunate area; all told, though, it’s a good but not great resort for the price.

The Puntacana Hotel's 170 suites are steps away from the beach, on a giant property that includes three golf courses, including La Cana, Six Senses spa, a nature preserve, eight restaurants, horse stables, and more. La Romana's Casa de Campo is nearly identical, unless you're a pro golfer -- Casa de Campo's Teeth of the Dog beats La Cana.

The Beaches Sandy Bay Resort has one of best beaches in Jamaica, with golden sand, swimmable waters and few vendors. It offers clean, comfortable rooms, average food, and tons of kid and teen facilities. In short, it's smaller, cheaper and more low-key than nearby Beaches Negril.

Divi Dutch Village is one of five mid-range Divi properties on the island of Aruba. All of the 123 suites have king beds, queen sofa sleepers, and fully equipped kitchens, making them a convenient pick for families. Additional in-room amenities include balconies, duvets, flat-screen TVs and DVD players. Don't expect ocean views, though, as the property is situated in a garden-like setting behind the Tamarijn Aruba. That being said, guests are just steps from a prime stretch of Druif Beach, as well as several outdoor pools. Guests have the opportunity to purchase all-inclusive packages for access to the restaurants and bars at neighboring Divi Aruba, Tamarijn Aruba and Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort; packages also include access to the sister properties' wide range of activities and a kids' club.

Set on a breezy hilltop overlooking Anse-a-l'Ane beach, Le Panoramic has 36 Studios and Bungalows styled with colorful yellow kitchens, modern Caribbean-inspired decor, and ocean views from private terraces. Martinique is called the "Island of Flowers," and the hotel emphasizes the label by surrounding the pool and trimming the stone paths that traverse the hillside with a variety of colorful flowers and trees. While not located directly on the beach, the hotel shuttles guests down the hill on request. Those who must be steps from the ocean might prefer Hotel Bakoua, located in nearby Les Trois-Ilets.
